As the world´s best 8 metre sailors gather together at the waterside, the late summer conditions could hardly been better at Hankø.
Clear sky and slightly above 20 degrees welcome the participants of this year´s 8 Metre World Cup at Hankø Yacht Club tonight.
After two days of tune up races during the weekend, the official World cups kicks off on Monday 14.
The first warning signals will be at 1200 every day during the race week.
28 yachts from nine nations, including H.M King Harald of Norway ´s "Sira", will be fighthing on the water to win the World Cup Trophee during the following six days. Thursday is schudeled as lay day and Saturday as the last racing day.
The prize giving ceremony will be held at Hankø Fjordhotel and Spa Saturday evening.
Important information for spectactors
During the 8metre World Cup Week, Hankø Yacht Club (HYC) premises and docks will be reserved for competitiors, their families and officials only. The harbour at the other side of the bay, including the restaurant or "Kroa", will be open as usual, the Hankø hotel as well. The races will be held ouside the Hankø island, which means you might watch the races from the outer side of the island, If you arrive at sea with your private yacht, make sure to follow the instructions form the race control boats and /or guard boats. Spectactors are alos welcome to assist the prize giving ceremony at Hankø spa hotel at 19.00 on Saturday August 19.
